Verano madrileño

leave a comment »

Madrid burns with that radiant sunlight that warms, comforts and sometimes oppresses, depending on the day. It’s that time of year when tintos de verano provide wonderful temporary relief from the heat, where an after work caña leads to  a full afternoon of laughter with friends — who wants to go home anyway when the sun is out till way past 10pm? It’s extremely hot, but your body has a memory built into it of 7am walks to the metro in the freezing cold, the yoke of all those layers of abrigo that you had to put on to make it through January and this memory makes you realize the paradise of this sunlit city doing that blue sky that only it can do.
